Scout

Our new pup Scout. He is full of love and curiosity.
His paws are to be grown in to. He falls over them constantly.
His eyes are big and his fur is soft.
We love him dearly and are excited for Savannah to have someone to play with.

Happy Autumn

It's the time of the year when I wish I lived in any other state. It can be 80 degrees outside and I will have the AC running as high as it will go just so I can make hot chocolate! I love wearing sweaters and boots and making my apartment smell like cinnamon. It's also the season where my favorite color is everywhere.

Orange!

Shall we..

The Great Debate

I found a really cool image that I hope will help you in choosing what haircut you want to try next. This picture shows a vary of face shapes and what hair cut or style looks best on them. The purpose isn't to hide a face shape, it's to bring forward your best features.

Oval: Ideal with almost any hair design, yet may lack a point of interest and can look plain. A stronger statement with the hair design may be used to create interest.
Round: Appears short and wide rather than long and narrow. Best to add height and long, wispy side areas to narrow the cheeks. Avoid volume at sides and curls. Place volume below jaw or above temple.
Heart (Triangle): Looks good with volume at chin and little or no volume on top. Curls help soften features. Avoid cropped napes so the face doesn't look too sharp.
Square: Short and wide. Add height on top and narrowness on the sides. Apply shapes that elongate the face. Very short hair with height can look good -- along with curly textures and wisps around the face. Avoid fringe or designs with width at the jawline.
Diamond: Add fullness at chin and narrow sides. Bobs and short hair work well. Avoid long, pointed side areas and height on top.
Pear (Trapezoid): Can wear graduated forms well. long, wispy side areas make cheeks and jaw look more slender. Avoid extremely short hair and bobs that end at the jaw.
Oblong (rectangle): Add softness and width with longer, curlier hair. Chin-length hair with volume on the sides is flattering. Fringe can shorten the look of oblongs. Avoid height and long, straight hair.

Love is sacrifice

"Love your self enough to walk away from something that no longer makes you happy"
But is that our purpose?
To be happy?

I have been around a lot of people lately that seem to think that their meaning in life is to be happy.
Wouldn't it be nice if that were true?

Our purpose in life is to love.
To love is to sacrifice.

You cannot love and be happy always.

We live in a selfish world. Divorce rates are through the roof, famlies are broken, churches are empty, and people are friendless.

How are you sacrificing your happiness for those you love?

Men

As a hairdresser, people are always asking for style advice.

"If you could do anything to my hair, what would you do?"

"How much do you think I should cut off?"

I found this exceptionally difficult to answer for men. I leaned 2 different ways to cut men's hair. That's it. It was simple and functional. I was so good at it! It took me 20 minutes and I made 20 bucks! I was so focused on finishing the cut with precision that I threw creativity out the window.

Within the last two years I have noticed that men are paying more and more attention to their hair. They are frustrated because they want to have a unique style that no one else has and of course show off their creativity. I honestly didn't know another way to cut their hair. I am not thinking outside the box and getting creative with my men's cuts and I am excited to show you guys some of my favorite looks that are bold and fresh.

Drum roll please..

Men with awesome hair.

BTW: I do not own these pictures.

What I am loving is the zero fade into a long top with a side part. It's so classic and really shows off your face shape.

This hair cut has the same idea but a lot more maintenance. Very short sides in with a long top allowing your natural curl to give it it's uniqueness.

This look is great for those who have a high forehead that they would like to keep the focus off of.

This is easily the hardest style to pull off. But I must say, it is my favorite when done right.
Thank you Phil Wickham.

Smile

It's a beautiful day!

“Be curious, not judgmental.” ― Walt Whitman

I read a very sad article.

Its about a young lady who found her identity in her purity. She was a christian and at the young age of 10 she vowed to save her virginity for her husband. She had people in the church telling her to do so and what would happen to her marriage if she didn't.

"I was told over and over again, so many times I lost count, that if I remained pure, my marriage would be blessed by God and if I didn’t that it would fall apart and end in tragic divorce."

"An unhealthy mixture of pride, fear, and guilt helped me keep my pledge until we got married."

She eventually got married after being with her boyfriend for 6 years. She didn't enjoy their wedding night because she was taught her whole life that sex is dirty and disgraceful. When they got back from their honeymoon she was so ashamed that she couldn't look people in the eye.

"My virginity had become such an essential part of my personality that I didn’t know who I was without it.
It didn’t get better. I avoided undressing in front of my husband. I tried not to kiss him too often or too amorously so I wouldn’t lead him on. I dreaded bedtime. Maybe he’d want to have sex.
When he did, I obliged. I wanted nothing more than to make him happy because I loved him so much and because I’d been taught it was my duty to fulfill his needs. But I hated sex."

She was in an identity crisis. What she prided herself in was now lost. She made her identity in her purity.

"I was so completely ashamed of my body and my sexuality that it made having sex a demoralizing experience."

What happened to her is very sad. But what stuck out to me the most was that she lost her relationship with God through all of this. Rather than it being between her and God it became a church issue. She had so much pressure to remain pure that when she lost it she no longer felt special.

We  need to love each other. We need to be sensitive to each others difficulties. To guilt someone into not sinning may work for now but in the long run it will cause major rebellion and bitterness towards God.

"...let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” John 8:7

Revive

This is years of only doing highlights. She is a naturaly level 6 and we were doing a level 10 highlights. It was beginning to look damaged even though her hair is in great condition.

I added less highlights and balayaged 6n PM Shines bringing it all the way to the ends.

After the shampoo I added a level 7 toner for 3 minutes.

Face Shapes

I posted this on my Pintest board a while back and just noticed it again. One thing I love about the "art of hair-cutting" is that it can make someone look completely different with just a simple trim or the twist of a curling iron.
Recently I tried bags. I loved them! They made me feel like I had a style. To get super weird on you, I felt like my hair had a purpose. When my hair isn't styled perfectly it throws off my confidence. When it's straight I feel different than I would if it were curly. And when its short I don't feel as pretty as I do when it's long.
In school I learned a lot about weight. Your hair has the ability to weight your face down. By that I mean: notice illustration 3. The girl's jaw seems to be wider than the girl in illustration 5. If you tend to have a bigger forehead, try bangs. If you have a long face, try a face framing bob to round your face out a bit. If you have a round face, you would need to put the wieght of your hair lower, lengthening your face.
No one has the perfect face shape (arguably oval) so we, as hairdressers, will take your concerns and customize your hair cut (and style) to you face shape.

Beauty

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Lately I have been a little self conscious.
I often think about my little sister and hope that she never has to feel this way. In fact, I hope no young lady ever has to feel this way.
I hear people say, I don't care what people think of me!
Although I agree, I think that's a very unhealthy way of dealing with rejection.

We shouldn't dwell on others opinions, however, we need to hear what people are saying about us.
If someone calls me rude, I will try my best to make sure I never come off as rude again.

Why?

I care about what GOD thinks of me.
I want to be a reflection of God, therefore I don't intentionally hurt people. So if someone tells me that I am acting a certain way, I will do my best to make sure it is glorifying God.

I want to be beautiful and that starts with filling my heart and spirit with God.

This I love

For a wedding or a religious event.

Promotion!

I got a promotion at work! It's nothing but good. I now work full time so I can finally get benefits. It's been a while.

I used to always tell my mom I would go to work for her if she would go to school for me.

home.

Moving is never fun.

Especially when the new home is on the second story. Piano, record player cabinet, beds, ect.

Our new home feels like a fresh start but it also feels very cold. It's just not quite home yet.

Awapuhi Wild Ginger

Recently, I wrote about my favorite product used to tame flyaways. I though it would be a good idea to write about the whole Awapuhi Wild Ginger line since it is so fantastic!

This product line from Paul Mitchell came out as soon as I was finishing school at Paul Mitchell. I didn't get a much training on it so everything I know about this line is through trail and error.

There are a total of 9 products in this line as well as a keratin treatment done in the salon.

 Texturizing Sea Spray

For beachy waves without the sand.

Shine Spray

The best finishing touch to make your style look and feel silky smooth. Perfect for updo's!

Styling Treatment Oil

Perfection in a bottle. When you are finished straightening or curling your hair, add this from ends up to the roots for a flawless hold that will keep your frizz tamed and your flyaways grounded. This product will seriously make people want to touch your hair!

Hydromist Blowout Spray & Hydrocream Whip

These two products go so well together. Apply both before you blowdry, spraying hydromist first to ensure good coverage and hold, then add a generous amount of hydrocream all over to add extra volume. Blowdry using your hands and finish it off with a round-brush. PERFECTION.

 KeraTriplex Treatment

This is an in-salon treatment for dry, damaged hair. I sprinkle the pre-washed, damp hair with the vial of keratin and let sit for 5 minutes. Next, I add the Keratin Intensive Treatment (a conditioner) and add heat from a dryer. After 10 minutes, we rinse and style as usual. This product is only guaranteed when used in conjunction with Moisturizing Lather Shampoo and Keratin Cream Rinse (both sulfate free) from the same line.
In my personal experience I notice a huge difference in my clients hair texture. It soothes the hair so it feels silky and relaxed. Not so frizzy. Also, color fading is nearly non-existent. I have a client that used to come in for a color every 3-4 weeks because her color faded so quickly. When we used this treatment on her hair, she only came is ever 6-7 weeks to touch-up her grey. I use this on myself every 4 weeks and my hair has much less breakage so it seems to be growing better.

Moisturizing Lather Shampoo.

100% sulfate free. Contains keratin which your hair is made of, to rebuild and repair your hair from the inside, not just adding a layer of wax to make your hair feel smooth from the outside like most products do.

Hydromist Blow-Out Spray

To add an extra bump of volume that you need to last, this product is to be sprayer on clean, damp hair prior to your blow-out. Hydromist is made up of awapuhi and honey extract for the perfect balance of moisture.

Finishing Spray

This hairspray smells amazing, has tremendous hold and doesn't feel stiff to the touch. What more can I say? Oh yea, Can I add that it's UV resistant!

This small line of flower-smelling-goodness is all you will ever need to get the perfect summery beach look that is so hot right now. The fragrances all compliment each other so well since they were all meant to work together. I feel like the products speak for themselves so I guess I can leave this at that.
